Two people were hurt Thursday when a Jeep drove through the Maine Pines Racquet and Fitness building on Harpswell Road in Brunswick.Police say the crash happened at about 9:40 a.m. When first responders arrived, they say they found a “very chaotic scene” with the Jeep inside the building.Police say the Jeep crashed through a wall, sped across four tennis courts where people were playing tennis, went through the lobby and then into another room before stopping.Rob Manter who owns Maine Pines, was up in his office on the third floor when he heard a bang. He looked out and was shocked to see the car speeding through his tennis courts.”I don’t know how fast, but it was going very fast, and then my feeling, obviously I call 911. I don’t know what I’m facing, you know, we didn’t know if it was medical. We didn’t know if it was something more drastic,” said Manter. Witnesses said people were running in all directions to get out of the way of the Jeep.One customer was hit by flying glass and was taken to Mid Coast Hospital, along with the driver of the Jeep.The Jeep was totaled and the building had to be closed due to the damage.Maine Pines Racquet and Fitness said they would be closed for a few days to assess, clean up and make repairs. They said there was extensive damage, especially to the aerobics studio.”It’s going to be a process. There’s going to be a lot of things that are going to have to be repaired, and so, just one step at a time,” said Manter.Police say it took hours to remove the vehicle from the building.Police say the driver was a 72-year-old woman from Gray.As of Friday afternoon, Brunswick police have not said what they believe led to the crash.
