The Indian Valley Recreation and Parks District announces the grand opening of the new Indian Valley Fitness Center and Makerspace on Saturday, Nov. 1, from noon to 2 p.m. at 117 Grand St. in Greenville. Organizers say the celebration will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony; tours of the fitness center, makerspace and classrooms; and a complementary lunch prepared by the talented students of the Indian Valley Academy culinary class. Everyone is welcome to join the celebration and learn about how to get involved.
IVRPD points out that this project is the result of a strong partnership between the rec district and IVA. Together, the two entities are creating new opportunities for local residents by offering community classes for both youth and adults, utilizing IVA’s culinary classroom, art room and gymnasium, said IVRPD.
Instructors interested in offering community classes are encouraged to contact IVRPD Executive Director Melissa Lopez at [email protected].
The Indian Valley Fitness Center will officially open its doors during the grand opening event. Membership signups will be available, and all Indian Valley residents can enjoy free access throughout November with a $20 refundable deposit for key card entry. Organizers point out that the gym features keypad access for members, providing convenient use before and after school hours.

“The fitness center will provide a much-needed space for residents to focus on health and wellness in a welcoming, community-centered environment,” said IVRPD.
The brand-new Indian Valley Makerspace is designed to spark creativity and innovation, said organizers. The space features
- Multiple sewing machines
- A computer numerical control — CNC — machine
- An engraver
- An embroidery machine
- Two 3D printers
- A leather press

This state-of-the-art facility was made possible through collaboration between IVRPD, Plumas Charter School and Plumas Unified School District, offering a testament to what can be achieved when organizations work together in a rural community, said organizers.
Once the makerspace is fully operational, community members will be able to earn certifications on specific machines. After completing training, certified users may bring their own materials and use the equipment during open hours to create projects, prototypes or products, said IVRPD. Classes and workshops are currently being developed and will be announced on ivrpd.org as they become available.
