GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness will soon become the manager of Avera McKennan Fitness Center.
The transition is scheduled for Dec. 1.
The fitness center at 3400 S. Southeastern Ave. previously was managed by Power Wellness.
“We thank our previous management company, Power Wellness, for the great service they provided our employees and members over the past 27 years,” said Dr. Ron Place, regional president and CEO of Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center.
“Avera McKennan leadership arrived at this decision in response to changes in the fitness industry and consumer preferences.”
Avera McKennan Fitness Center has been in operation since 1997.
Avera, Power Wellness and GreatLIFE “are working together to ensure a smooth transition for members and staff,” the organizations said in a statement.
Current members of the Avera McKennan Fitness Center will have the opportunity to become members of GreatLIFE. Members will have enhanced benefits such as access to other GreatLIFE fitness centers and golf.
Avera will continue to own the building, and current staff will have the opportunity to apply for open positions with GreatLIFE and Avera. The Avera Therapy location at the Avera McKennan Fitness Center will remain open, and therapists will continue to have access to the pool and the facility for therapy. The annual Avera Race Against Cancer, entering its 37th year, will continue to be held at this same location as well.
“GreatLIFE and Avera share a key focus on wellness, which helps to benefit our community. We look forward to a collaborative relationship,” Place said.
The fitness center will be GreatLIFE’s largest location on the east side. GreatLIFE’s model offers members options for unlimited golf and fitness at all locations.
“Avera and GreatLIFE have similar missions to have a positive impact and enrich the lives of people in our communities. Working together, we’ll make a difference in people’s lives,” said Tom Walsh Sr., chairman and owner of GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness.
Avera McKennan Fitness Center members are receiving communication regarding how the transition will impact them.
In the message to members, GreatLIFE said they would be able to begin using the fitness center Dec. 1. It will include state-of-the-art fitness equipment, free weights, a small-group training area, massage and group fitness, plus a walking track, basketball court, spa, steam room, lap pool, therapy pool and saunas.
Child care is not scheduled to be offered there and will continue to be offered at GreatLIFE’s Woodlake and Performance Center locations.
Hours will be the same as Woodlake Athletic Club: 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
