Google Shopping Adds AI-Powered Fashion Search and Virtual Try-On

Google is making online shopping more intuitive with AI. The company has rolled out new features for its Shopping tab, including an AI-powered tool that lets users describe clothing they want and instantly see AI-generated images of similar items available for purchase. Google is also expanding its virtual try-on tool to include more clothing categories and enhancing its AR-powered beauty try-on features.

Key Points:

  • AI-powered search: Users can describe clothing items, and Google will generate images of similar styles that can be purchased.
  • Virtual beauty try-on: Shoppers can now try on full makeup looks inspired by celebrities and trending styles.
  • Expanded virtual try-on: Google has added pants and skirts to its digital fitting room, letting users see clothes on diverse body types.

Shopping for clothes online often means scrolling through endless product listings, hoping to find something that matches your style. Google’s latest AI-powered feature aims to change that. With its new Vision Match tool, users can now describe an item of clothing—such as a “colorful midi dress with big daisies”—and Google’s AI will generate images of matching styles, linking directly to shoppable products.

Previously tested in Google Labs, Vision Match is now available to all U.S. users through Google Search and the Shopping tab. To use it, shoppers can enter their clothing description and look for the “Can’t find it? Create it” prompt. From there, Google will suggest AI-generated images to refine the search and display real-world products for purchase.

Alongside Vision Match, Google is enhancing its AR-powered beauty try-on tools. When users search for celebrity-inspired makeup looks or trends like “soft glam,” they can virtually try on curated beauty products, including lipsticks, mascaras, and blushes from various brands. Using Google’s latest machine learning models, the feature applies these products to users’ faces, helping them visualize complete looks before buying.

Google’s virtual try-on tool, initially available for tops and dresses, is also expanding to include pants and skirts. Shoppers can search for items like skinny jeans or silk skirts and see how they look on diverse models ranging from XXS to XXL. The tool has been updated with new machine learning models to improve fit accuracy, even generating full outfit previews that include matching tops and shoes.

These updates reflect Google’s ongoing push to integrate AI into shopping, making the process more visual, interactive, and personalized. The new features are rolling out now for U.S. users on both mobile and desktop.
