Coming soon, the Center for Yoga, a beloved Larchmont business locally owned and managed, will offer a new way to improve your fitness.

“Our new boutique fitness membership introduces a modern approach to health and wellness, thoughtfully crafted for those seeking more than the traditional gym environment,” Heather Bragg, CFY manager, told the Buzz when we stopped by several weeks ago while the space was being prepared for the new equipment.

The new fitness room will feature a treadmill and Stairmaster machines, benches, and weights for free-weight and strength training, offering the opportunity to create a balanced fitness regimen in a small, local boutique setting.

CFY re-opened in August 2021 under local ownership after the former operator, Yogaworks, closed during the pandemic. Still the same owners who are committed to serving the community, whose interests range from serious yoga enthusiasts to novices as well as those interested in adding fitness to their practice, adding the fitness center felt like a logical step, explained Heather Bragg, studio manager since the re-opening in 2021, and part of the Larchmont studio since 2010.

“We opened the studio to be a wellness space,” explained Bragg. “We have the best teachers in the world teaching yoga. As professionals, we realized that strength training is becoming not just popular but essential for longevity and bone density. So adding fitness is a key part of offering a whole wellness plan for our clients.”

The CFY occupies a historic space on Larchmont. The building was built in 1927 as a Masonic Lodge. After the Masons moved out and reportedly into their larger, more expansive building on Wilshire Blvd., the space was briefly a Fred Astaire Dance studio. In 1967, yoga pioneer Ganga White opened the studio…and the rest is yoga history. Bringing the studio back to life under local ownership hasn’t been easy. CFY continues to grow and build out their programming, the fitness center is a good example of how they are responding to the community.

CFY offers a wide range of membership options and packages that will also include the fitness center. The fitness center membership is priced at $75 per month. They also offer an introductory pass for $40 that offers unlimited access to over 100 in-studio and livestream yoga classes each week. CFY will waive the initiation fee for any new members who sign up for the fitness center by August 31, 2025.

For current members, the first 25 members to add on, the cost is just $25 a month. For all current members, it’s only an additional $30 to your membership to use the fitness center.

The fitness center is expected to open later this month.
