The name “AutoCAD” is an acronym derived from the words “auto” and “draftsman.” AutoCAD is a software package for creating two-dimensional drafting and design work. It is one of Autodesk’s most popular products. The idea of a computer drafting program was first conceived by a California mechanical engineer, John Walker, and two engineers at the Hewlett-Packard Company who were working on a system that would produce 3D printed parts based on mathematical models. They determined that the state of technology at the time was not sufficiently advanced to do that. Walker then developed a new concept that could take those three-dimensional models and convert them into 2D sketches that could be used as an initial drawing or product concept.
The idea caught on. Walker was hired by the Burroughs Corporation to adapt his concept into a working product. The product was called “Drawing System 4”, but because of the company’s problems with trademark infringement, it was renamed “AutoCAD”. Autodesk bought AutoCAD in 1987. This was one of the first acquisitions made by Autodesk, one of the company’s first spin-offs from AutoCAD.

Category:Software companies of the United StatesThe site development project to build a public park and community centre on the former Inala racecourse site in Brisbane is set to be ready within a year.
The final design has been unveiled to the community with environmental health approval granted on Thursday morning.
Inala Legacy is owned by Brisbane City Council and the City of Brisbane is funding the $28.5 million upgrade, which includes new footpaths, trees, landscaping, children’s playground, park benches and an elevated walking bridge.
Mayor Tom Olbarn says the project will create a public space of historic importance and encourage community engagement.
“By enhancing the natural environment we will further improve the physical and social environment of Inala.”
The community consultation process includes a community vote and will be followed by development of a master plan and business case.
The City says there are plans to deliver much more.
“We have identified that there are also significant opportunities to provide enhanced public access to the river, as well as an opportunity to develop a new community-led initiative that will create a world-class dance and music precinct in the CBD.”
The City says it expects the redevelopment to generate significant economic benefits for the region, as well as community opportunities for residents and workers.
A cultural precinct and a major arts and cultural precinct are also expected to be supported by the project.
