    Shall we be correct, that in the late 80’s DataJack were really big on the black market. And the all-male trio of Wallace, Jack and Bradley met their untimely end, but probably that was not the case. Telling with the ‘Slayer-Soundtrack’ no surprise that Jack would have had a lot of black metal blood on his hands. It would be an injustice that for no-one to hear the work of the late DataJack. At that time the Afrikaans rock scene did not boast much, so it was either a Punk, Industrial or even more ambient Music that was served to its fans. But it was the latter, namely the experimental music scene, that took the initiative. Slowly, but surely the african rock scene took notice of it. In the early 80’s the band Belltortoise was one of the pioneers. The product was a very creative approach with a far-out music. Even though the african rock scene was very small, the music attracted lots of attention. The african rock scene also started to change their style. They were developing themselves, creating a style of their own, more focussing on the sound and less on the political lyrics. They were also searching for new instruments. Mostly these new instruments were electronic instruments. Bandmembers would replace their instruments when the following style started to be played: with an Electronic synth instead of guitars, they’d play a Farfisa or a Roland JP-8000 instead of a guitar or a drum kit, they added sequencers and analog synthesisers. Nowadays it is probably much harder for a band to introduce such instruments into their music, since the recording quality and the equipment are much better and so many bands are already playing. In the 90’s the next group to adopt the electronica style was the band Katastrophe. The songs were very experimental, from loud and fast like Zodiac Mindwarp to softer, melancholic one like ‘Rose Tattoo’. Sometimes they would create
