Pineland Farms seeks new chapter for Outdoor & Fitness Center

The New Gloucester farm said the center will close on June 1.

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine — Pineland Farms in New Gloucester has announced it will close its Outdoor and Fitness Center on June 1, saying the space has “reached the end of its useful life.”

In a social media post, officials said the infrastructure is no longer feasible to maintain. However, the owner plans to explore future possibilities for the site, including potential partnerships to reimagine or even rebuild the facility.

Staff said equipment rentals would no longer be available, but assured public outdoor recreation would still be a core part of the Pineland Farms experience.

“Our trails will remain open and well-maintained for year-round activities like hiking, biking, skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding. Passes will be available online and at our Market and Welcome Center,” the post stated.

“Disc golf will remain an important part of recreation at Pineland, and we’re excited about the rapid growth in that sport. In addition to our three 18-hole courses, a fourth, family-friendly 9-hole course will be added on the Pineland Campus in the near future.”

The post also noted that Veterans Adaptive Sports and Training (VAST) would continue to meet at the Outdoor Center through June 30. Staff said plans for a new meeting location were in the works and would be shared with participants through VAST’s weekly newsletter and Facebook page.

Upcoming Programs and Reservations

All programs, events, and activities normally held at the Outdoor Center scheduled after June 1 are cancelled. These events include candlepin bowling, pickleball, and private reservations.

Officials said that over the next month, they would contact those with existing bookings and tickets to issue refunds.

“We appreciate your patience as we work through this process,” the post stated. “We recognize that this closure will affect some of our dedicated staff, and we are deeply grateful for their service and contributions over the years. Pineland is committed to being flexible and supportive as staff members explore new employment opportunities.”
