Mt. Vernon Rec Center Has Re-Opened

Alexandria, VA – At long last, Mount Vernon Rec Center (at the corner of Fort Hunt Road and Belle View Boulevard) reopened Monday, June 9. The renovations include major improvements, such as a well-equipped two-story fitness center, and exciting new additions of a second ice rink, a rock-climbing wall, and an indoor running track above the new ice rink.

This will be a phased opening:

  • JUNE 9: Fitness Room and Ice Arena Open
  • JUNE 16: Camps and Drop-In Fitness Classes Begin
  • JUNE 23: Climbing Wall and Drop-In Childcare

The pool is still under renovation and is due to open in August.

Everyone on the staff is friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The new facility is bright and expansive with plenty of natural light throughout.
There are many spots to personalize your workout in the two-story Fitness Center.
The Fitness Center includes rooms for classes and breakouts.
The rock climbing wall is due to open June 23.
The well-stocked Fitness Center includes cardio, function, cable strength, and plate loaded strength equipment.
The Fitness Center is wide open and spacious.
Two ice rinks are better than one! The pool is scheduled to open in August.
Locals may recognize this gathering area outside the old rink, which is in the same place (through the glass-window doors) and beautifully renovated. The new rink is just off to the left of this area. Also located in this wing are team locker rooms, the skate rental and sharpening office, plenty of public lockers, restrooms, new dressing rooms, and party rooms.
The new rink (the Red Rink) is on the northwest corner of the lower level.
New dressing rooms outside the two ice rinks share the public space with lockers and benches, as well as the skate rental and sharpening office.
The old ice rink, the Blue Rink, is looking spiffy after the renovation.
There are plenty of lounge areas as well as places to sit and eat at counters and in booths.
