Beebe Healthcare CPO leads movement to improve women’s heart health in Delaware

Newark, DE, Jan. 9, 2024 – Nearly half of women ages 20 and older are living with some form of cardiovascular disease (CVD), the No. 1 killer of women. Because of her passion for improving women’s heart health in Delaware, Ashley Addison Foster, MBA, senior vice president and chief people officer Beebe Healthcare, will serve as the 2024-2025 volunteer chair of Go Red for Women in Delaware. Launched more than two decades ago to increase women’s heart health awareness, Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association’s global movement designed to serve as a catalyst for change to improve the health of women. As the American Heart Association enters its second century of lifesaving work, Foster will play a critical role in women’s health by leading Delaware’s Go Red for Women campaign.

CVD is the leading cause of death in women, claiming more lives than all cancers combined, and continues to be women’s greatest health threat. According to the American Heart Association, as women grow and change, so does their risk for CVD. Unique life stages like pregnancy and menopause can affect that risk. The good news is the majority of cardiovascular disease incidents can be prevented through lifestyle changes and education. Through Go Red for Women, the Association calls on all women to take charge of their health and encourage other women to do the same. Because when it comes to their health, women have the best resource: they have each other.

“I am deeply honored to serve as chair of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign. As a passionate advocate for women’s health, I am energized to lead this powerful movement that has helped save nearly 900,000 women’s lives. Heart disease remains the number one killer of women, taking far too many of our mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends. Yet, we know that 80% of cardiac events can be prevented,” said Foster. “Through Go Red for Women, we will continue to empower women with knowledge, encourage them to take charge of their heart health, and advocate for increased research and health equity. Together, we can create a future where every woman has the opportunity and resources to live a longer, healthier life. I look forward to building on the campaign’s incredible legacy and working alongside our dedicated volunteers, supporters, and staff to make an even greater impact in women’s cardiovascular health.”

This year’s Delaware Go Red for Women campaign will focus on raising awareness about women’s unique cardiovascular risk factors, promoting equitable access to care, and supporting lifesaving research. Through community engagement, partnerships and educational initiatives, the campaign will aim to empower women across the state to make heart-healthy decisions and encourage systemic change to support better outcomes for all.

“We are incredibly grateful for Ashley Foster and her unwavering passion and dedication to the Go Red for Women movement,” said Jim Murphy, executive director of the American Heart Association in Delaware. “She leads by example through her commitment to raising awareness and advocating for women’s heart health. Ashley’s leadership will undoubtedly make a significant impact on our community and help further our mission to save and improve lives.”

Go Red for Women is a global movement with impact across the United States and in more than 50 countries around the world. This year’s Go Red for Women movement and its local achievements will be celebrated on April 11 at the Delaware Go Red for Women Luncheon, taking place at the University of Delaware.

Go Red for Women is nationally sponsored by CVS Health, and the Delaware Go Red for Women Luncheon is locally sponsored by Bayhealth, ChristianaCare, and more. For more information, contact Karen Gritton at [email protected] or visit www.heart.org/delawaregored .
